Once you have your serenity room, you'll need to establish rituals for its use. This shouldn't be another 'should' in your life, but a soothing habit, kind of like settling into the easy chair after work with your slippers, the newspaper, and a glass of Gewurtztraminer. In other words, another ritual that reinforces the way you escape from the demands of your day, only a bit different, and a bit novel. Be the first in your neighborhood.
Keep your bathrooms bright and chirpy in the sense that your wall tiles and flooring should not be dark and somber. White is always elegant and can be enhanced with splashes of color in toweling, mirrors, rugs and shower accessories. Bathrooms should be a sanctuary for relaxation, and therefore should not be over cluttered with superfluous objects. Scented candles with soft music in the background is sure to take away the stresses of the day, as you soak your wary body in a luxurious foam bath.
There is also nothing worse than the smell of spices from last nights dinner drifting through the house either, so be careful of using strong smelling cooking ingredients during the time your home is listed for sale. The smell of home baked bread, cookies or cake is always great but can also be looked at as trying to cover other smells so I personally do not think that is a great idea either. Also, the use of fragrant candles is not a good idea as again it can be and has been used to cover odours and may be seen as just that.
